Maruti Suzuki has confirmed plans to launch a new compact SUV based on the XA-Alpha concept, which debuted at the 2012 Auto Expo. The new vehicle is expected to go on sale somewhere between 2014 and 2015 and will be in the price range of Rs seven to nine lakh. It is likely to become the next generation Gypsy.
This new compact vehicle (to be under four-meters) will be the SUV sibling of the Ertiga MPV in the Indo-Japanese automakers line up. When launched, the XA-Alpha based compact SUV will compete with the likes of the Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport as well as the Tata and Mahindra upcoming mini SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki has also announced that a new Grand Vitara will be launched in 2016 and that it will be based on the Kizashi’s platform.
