The wait to performance focused Baleno RS hatchback from Maruti Suzuki will finally come to end tomorrow with its launch in the country. Bookings for the Baleno RS began a while ago via the Nexa website at a token of Rs 11,000. The RS trim will be the automaker’s first real performance focused hatchback in the country.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS is powered by a 998cc three cylinder turbo-petrol ‘Boosterjet’ engine that generates 100bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. At launch, the vehicle will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission that powers the front wheels and it is to be seen if the company will introduce an AT transmission option as well. Like all Nexa cars, the Baleno RS will also get dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.
We believe that the Baleno RS will be based on the top-spec Alpha variant along with added equipment. The vehicle will come loaded with new features like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, automatic projector headlamps and wipers, electro chromatic mirrors, keyless entry and possibly leather seats. For sportiness, the vehicle will also get a new interior shade which is not offered with the standard model.
Post launch it will emerge as a strong competitor against the likes of Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Fiat Abarth Punto. The new variant will push the Baleno brand a level above the rest while also assuring an overall growth in cumulative sales. On the pricing aspect, we believe it might be priced over Rs 8-lakh. More details about the vehicle will be known post launch.
