Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will hire 1000 shop-floor workers for various positions at its Manesar Plant from Gujarat. These positions were made vacant after the July 18 violence at the plant which resulted in its lockout as well as injury to 96 and the death of one senior executive.
This is a departure from the policy the company has been following for many years now, where it use to hire workers from ITI’s located in nearby regions for the jobs and has most likely been caused by the lockout. It has also been hiring workers from nearby states for the same purpose to its other factories and held recruitment drives in this regard.
Officials from the company will head over to the ITI in Kubernagar near Ahemdabad on the 30th of January and in collaboration with the government of Gujarat will hire the 1000 workers via a job fair. Since the July 18 violence, it seems that MSIL has begun to look elsewhere in India to establish itself and took the first step in this regard by announcing a new Rs 4000 crore plant at Hansalpur in Mehsana district of Gujarat.
