Maruti Suzuki to focus on new tech to cut emissions and increase fuel efficiency

Maruti Suzuki is working on new technologies that will cut down emissions of its cars and at the same time, see an increase in the overall fuel efficiency. 

The company said that it has brought down the average CO2 emissions of its entire fleet by nearly 19 per cent since the last decade. Other than developing new lightweight platforms like the Heartect, the company will focus more on design to improve the aerodynamics of the car. This would directly improve the overall fuel efficiency. The Baleno and the Dzire have been built on this new platform and that’s why it is far more efficient and safer than the other Maruti cars. The Gurgaon based manufacturer is also working on the current drivetrains to make it more efficient. 

"Going forward, we will continue our focus on investing in new technologies and strengthen our capability to bring down emissions per vehicle by enhancing fuel efficiency of our cars," CV Raman, executive director, engineering, Maruti Suzuki India said. 

"We work on platform strategy and keep on rationalising them to offer better value to the customers by better fuel efficiency and better performance, which leads to reduction in emissions," he added. 

The Ciaz and the Ertiga which are equipped with a mild-hybrid systems have been able to sell well due to the FAME subsidies. However, the government recently withdrew subsidies for mild hybrids, which is a clear indication for manufacturers to offer electric cars.
