Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will conduct a market survey in the early part of 2018 over a period of six weeks to find about EV related charging infrastructure. This is a major step for the Indo-Japanese automaker and the last time it took such an initiative was ahead of the original Maruti 800's market launch in 1983.
The aim of the survey, the company says, is to find out issue related to the establishment and running of EV charging infrastructure. This survey will help them develop infrastructure in line with consumer expectations and also in cost effective manner especially in places where electricity isn’t easily accessible. It will also give them a consumers’ perspective on the future of EVs in India.
The move to give a big push behind EVs by Maruti Suzuki comes in the wake of the Central Government announcing that it wants India to have an EV based road system by 2030. Also, its parent company Suzuki has signed an MOU with Toyota to produce EVs and everything connected to them in India. The company has already announced that it will develop batteries at its newly established plant in Gujrat.Â
