Maruti Suzuki is still testing the SX4 S-Cross on the Indian soil. The upcoming crossover has been spied several times in our country and this time, one of the members of our team spotted it testing in a disguised avatar near Chandigarh.
The international spec S-Cross is currently sold in some European markets as a replacement to the SX4 hatchback. However, before launching the car for the Indian market, the company will make a host of changes to the car. The vehicle’s fascia sports a three piece horizontal slats chrome grille and also projector headlamps, DRLs and fog lamps. The interior is expected to be similar to the one in the Swift's cabin.
On the mechanical front, the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross available in the European market is powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. We think the diesel variant of the S-Cross for the Indian market might be powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder mill that will churn out 120bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The petrol variant might be powered by a 1.6-litre engine that will produce 120bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. The transmission systems might include the five-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox.
The Suzuki S-Cross made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show last year. Maruti Suzuki showcased the SX4 S-Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo, in India, this February and will launch it soon in the Indian market. Expected to be priced within the Rs 12-15 lakh bracket, it will rival the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and even the Mahindra XUV 500 in the highly competitive mid-size crossover segment.
