Maruti Suzuki might launch their premium compact crossover, the SX4 S-Cross, for the Indian market in May this year, says a report by the Business Standard. The crossover was first unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and Suzuki has already globally launched it.
The SX4 S-Cross is a replacement to the SX4 hatchback overseas and is a step-up from its predecessor. The vehicle is larger than the previous model and measures 4,300mm in length, 1,795mm in width, 1,575mm in height and 2,600mm in wheelbase. The fascia sports a three piece horizontal slatted chrome grille, headlamps with projectors, DRLs and fog lamps. The SX4 S-Cross gets a new design for the alloy wheels and sports a body cladding that gives it a muscular appearance. The interior is similar to the one in the facelifted Swift's cabin.
The SX4 S-Cross that that is available in the European and Malaysian market is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol mill. This engine produces 118bhp of power and 156Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic gearbox. The crossover is available in both- 2WD and 4WD. However, for the Indian market, the 1.6-litre diesel engine might be replaced by the 1.3-litre DDiS motor and power will be sent to the front wheels only.
Maruti Suzuki had displayed the SX4 S-Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo and now plans to launch the crossover for the Indian market in May 2015. The crossover is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh and will compete with the Hyundai Elite i20 crossover, XUV500, Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport.
