Maruti’s upcoming crossover - the SX4 S-Cross is due to be launched in early 2015. There have been plenty of spy images of this car’s exterior and some images of the interior too and this time clearer images have emerged.
The interior is similar to the S-Cross that was on display at the 2014 Auto Expo and the steering wheel is similar to the other Maruti models but it lacks the audio control buttons. An eagle eye would also spot that there is no automatic climate control system or the start/stop button indicating that the test mule might be a mid or a lower-end variant.
The dashboard is all black with silver theme that runs through the AC vents, audio system all way down to the centre console. Even the gear knob console gets silver surrounds. The instrument cluster features blue illumination as seen on the car displayed at the Expo.
The SX4 S-Cross might be powered by a new 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel engine producing 118bhp and 320Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox powering the front wheels. The option of Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel-drive system might be offered at a later stage.
This is the first crossover from Maruti and given our market’s liking to these vehicles and SUVs there is an optimism that it might do well. It will compete with the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano, in our market, when it goes on sale.
