History has proved that even the largest of armies can be brought down by a single force through stealth, ingenuity and cunningness and it seems that such a story has decided to play itself out in the Indian car market. The Ford EcoSport (single force but not so subtle thanks to the extra-large grille) has steadily been taking out various ranks (Dzire and Swift) in the armies of the vast Maruti Suzuki Empire since its launch on June 26.
Now that the drama of the issue has been conveyed let us get to real numbers. The latest victim of the EcoSport onslaught is Maruti Suzuki’s battle hardened and significantly experienced General, the Swift. It seems to have taken a significant nose dive as its sales dropped by 6775 units in July 2013. Maruti Suzuki was able to sell 17236 units of the Swift in June but the number has dropped to 10461 units in July.
Last month the EcoSport managed to influence the sales of the Dzire compact sedan resulting in it losing 4717 units. It dropped from 17265 units in May to 12548 in June and while it has managed to claw its way back by selling 15249 units this month, the effect is evident.
When we do a variant versus variant comparison, the EcoSport hits out at the LDi variant and above for both the Swift and Dzire, the most sought after variants in the line-up.
