With shifting trends towards safety amongst the Indian car buyers and safety regulations that are soon going to be put in place, Maruti Suzuki has made an important update to the Swift. The driver side airbags will now come as standard across the variants in the Swift as a part of 2017 model year update.
Previously, the driver side airbags were only available as standard in the top-of-the-line ZDi/ZXi variant, whereas it could be had as an optional extra in the LXi/LDi and VXi/VDi variants. Providing driver side airbags as standard now, Maruti Suzuki Swift has caught up with its competition like the Honda Jazz, Hyundai Elite i20, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra; as all of them have the driver airbags as standard across the range. Along with the airbags, the Swift will also have a driver seatbelt reminder and buzzer added as a part of the safety feature.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, on the other hand, will now have ISOFIX mounts fitted as standard. The Ciaz and Baleno got this feature last year and the newly-launched Ignis already comes with standard ISOFIX mounts. So with the S-Cross, all the three Nexa products will now be equipped with ISOFIX as a standard fitment.
The official announcement is yet to be made by the manufacturer but the addition of the driver side airbags shouldn’t disturb the pricing of the base and mid-variant of the Swift by much.
