Maruti Suzuki has listed the Ignis crossover on their website as an upcoming vehicle. They have also let out teasers hinting at the launch of the vehicle that is speculated to be launched in India on January 13.
The Ignis will be the latest compact crossover from the carmaker and come in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant will be powered by a modified version of the 1.2-litre K-Series mill from the Swift. On the other hand, the oil-burner should get the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel unit. On the transmission front, a five speed manual will be standard with the option of a CVT gearbox.
In terms of external appearance, the Ignis looks more of a premium offering even if it looks small in size. Having overall quirky looks, it features U-shaped DRLs and projector headlamps. The car is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, smartphone connectivity and Apple CarPlay, dual airbags, ABS, a reverse camera and parking sensors.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be the carmaker's first launch in 2017 and the third product to be sold from Nexa. Since it will be offered through these premium outlets, we can expect it to be slotted below the Baleno. Upon launch, the Ignis will compete with the Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Datsun Go Cross.
