Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car maker, has registered another year of growth with a 13.8 per cent increase in gross sales in the past financial year. Over 1.64 million cars were sold from April 2017 to March 2018 against the 1.44 million cars from April 2016 to March 2017. Contributing to more than 50 per cent of the overall passenger car sales in India, Maruti Suzuki has further strengthened its position.
In terms of monthly sales, MSIL sold 1.47 lakh cars in March this year, 15.3 per cent more than the 1.27 lakh cars sold in March 2017. Also, in spite of March being considered a slow month, compared to February, the sales have increased by over 8 per cent. The prime drivers of this growth have been the SUVs segment that has grown by over 24 per cent year on year, given the popularity of the Vitara Brezza and the steady numbers from the Ertiga and the S-Cross.
The entry-level A-segment has grown by over 21 per cent while the premium B-segment offerings have sold about 10 per cent more in March, year on year. Maruti Suzuki also announced its partnership with Toyota, offering to supply the Japanese giant with about 3,000 to 4,000 units of the Baleno and the Brezza every month in exchange of about 1,000 units of the Corolla to expand their product portfolios.
