Maruti Suzuki registers a 26.9 per cent increase in sales numbers for August 2014. The company sold 1,10,776 units last month in comparison to 87,323 cars sold in the same month last year.
The domestic sales also showed a 29.3 per cent rise with 98,304 cars delivered to Indian customers in August. The manufacturer had managed to sell 76,018 units in August 2013 and a maximum boost of 10.3 per cent in exports was recorded this time with 12,472 units sold overseas as against 11,305 units last year.
The major chunk of sales for last month was due to the sales of mini segment cars which include the Alto and the WagonR. These numbers rose by 8.3 per cent with 34,686 units sold this August. The company had sold 32,019 units in August last year.
Sales of the cars including Swift, Estilo, Ritz and Dzire rose by 53.2 per cent to 46,759 units in August this year as against 30,512 units in the same month a year ago. The sedan Dzire Tour also added to the sales numbers with 1,328 units sold as against 520 units in August 2013. This shows a 114.2 per cent increase in sales.
The sales of the Gypsy and Ertiga, which make up the utility segment, rose by 20.3 per cent at 5,491 units in August this year from 4,563 units in the corresponding month last year. Sales of vans, Omni and Eeco, increased by 25.6 per cent to 9,990 units in August this year as compared to 7,956 units in the same period of the previous year.
The sales numbers of the mid-sized sedan SX4 fell by 85.6 per cent to 50 units in August as against 348 units in the same month last year. The company will soon phase out this car to welcome the new Ciaz.
Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Ciaz during this festive season and bring the S-Cross SX4 to India next year. The company's sales figures are only expected to improve with the addition of these new products in its portfolio.
