Maruti Suzuki has announced a hike of 33.5 per cent in sales numbers for June 2014. The company sold 1,12,773 units last month in comparison to 84,455 cars sold in the same month last year.
The domestic sales also showed a 31.1 per cent rise with 1,00,964 cars delivered to Indian customers in June. The manufacturer had managed to sell 77,002 units in June 2013and a maximum boost of 58.4 per cent in exports was recorded this time with 11,809 units sold overseas as against 7,453 units last year.
The major chunk of sales was due to the sales of mini segment cars which include the Maruti 800, Alto, A Star and the WagonR. These numbers rose by 52.1 per cent with 47,618 units sold this June. The company had sold 31,314 units in June last year.
Sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz rose by 6.2 per cent to 22,293 units in June this year as against 20,996 units in the same month a year ago. The compact sedan Dzire also added to the good sales numbers with 15,990 units sold as against 12,548 units in June 2013. This shows a 27.4 per cent increase in sales.
There was no sale of the premium sedan Kizashi during the last month, however, the sales numbers of the mid-sized sedan SX4 climbed by 2.5 per cent to 322 units in June as against 314 units in the same month last year. The sales of the Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, which make up the utility segment, rose marginally at 5,003 units in June this year from 4,997 units in the corresponding month last year. Sales of vans, Omni and Eeco, increased by 42.5 per cent to 9,738 units in June this year as compared to 6,833 units in the same period of the previous year.
Maruti Suzuki launched the Celerio this February which is enjoying a good demand in the Indian car market. It had achieved record bookings earlier and is still adding to the company's sales numbers. The company will introduce the Ciaz and the S-Cross SX4 in India next year. With the addition of these new products in its line-up, Maruti Suzuki should only add to the sales figures.
