The gross sales of India’s leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki have dipped by almost four per cent in the month of August 2018. Owing to the floods in the southern part of the country and also in the North East, the Indian carmaker managed to sell only 1.45 lakh cars in August 2018 as compared to the 1.51 lakh cars sold in August 2017.
The biggest hit has been taken by UV and SUV segment as the sales dipped by over 16 per cent year on year. Even the compact car segment which contributes to almost half of the overall sales has dipped by 3.6 per cent. This segment includes the likes of the Swift, the Dzire, the Ignis and the Baleno.
On the brighter side, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has become the bestselling C-segment sedan in the Indian market, going past the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna by a margin. This is because Maruti Suzuki launched the new Ciaz last month and the numbers are expected to normalise over the next quarter.
