Maruti Suzuki’s SX4 S-Cross might soon be launched for the Indian market. Another test mule in a disguised avatar was spotted on test in Gurgaon.
Unlike the European version, the company has made a host of changes before they launch it for the Indian market. The car's fascia will sport a three-piece horizontal slat chrome grille and will get projector headlamps, DRLs and fog lamps for the top-end version. The interior is similar to the one in the Swift's cabin and some components are similar to the ones in the Ciaz.
The Suzuki S-Cross in the European market is powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 1.6-litre petrol mill churns out 120bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. We think the 1.6-litre diesel engine might be replaced by the 1.3-litre DDiS motor for the Indian market. This mill is currently seen on many cars in our country. The transmission systems might include the five-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox.
The S-Cross made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show last year. It is currently sold in some European markets as a replacement to the SX4 hatchback. Maruti Suzuki had displayed the SX4 S-Cross at the Auto Expo in India at the start of this year and might launch it in our country by the end of this year or early 2015. Priced in the range of Rs 12-15 lakh, it will go up against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and even the Mahindra XUV 500 in the highly competitive mid-size crossover segment.
