Maruti Suzuki has launched the S-Cross crossover in Mumbai for a starting price of Rs 8.83 lakh. The manufacturer will sell the car through their exclusive Nexa outlets.
The S-Cross is based on the SX4 hatchback, which was never introduced in the Indian market, but now has replaced it in some European markets. Maruti Suzuki has launched the India-spec model of the crossover that is similar to the global model. The vehicle's interior gets an all-black treatment with some silver inserts and shares the equipment list from the Ciaz.
For the Indian market, the S-Cross will be offered only in the diesel variant and there will be no petrol variant. The DDiS 200 variants will be powered by the conventional 1.3-litre multijet diesel powerplant that produces 90bhp of power and 200Nm. This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. There is another variant named DDiS 320 which has a 1.6-litre multi jet unit under its hood. This mill churns out 120bhp of power and 320Nm of torque and comes matched to a six-speed manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki has brought in a new nomenclature for the S-Cross variants with Sigma as the base variant, Delta, Zeta and Alpha being the top-end version. The S-Cross will be sold as a premium product through the company's exclusive Nexa showrooms in India.
