- 163,200 cars sold in domestic market in May 2018 against the 130,248 in May 2017
- 163,434 cars sold in April 2018
- Mini hatch segment grows 3.1%, compact segment 50.8%, UVs 14%
Maruti Suzuki almost hit another record in May 2018 when it fell just short of surpassing its previous best-month-ever, April 2018. With just 234 units short of the April numbers, Maruti Suzuki sold a whopping 1.6 lakh cars in May, more than three times the number of its closest competitor in the Indian car market, Hyundai.
Compared to the sales numbers of May 2017, the growth is 25.3 per cent, which is largely fuelled by the swell in premium compact segment. The mini-compact segment of the Alto and the Wagon R has grown by just over 3 per cent while the premium compacts including the Swift, the Dzire and the Baleno have grossed a 50 per cent rise over the corresponding 2017 numbers.
The UV segment has also been on a constant growth path with the new S-Cross slowly gaining popularity. The Vitara Brezza is already the best-seller in the segment and the Ertiga continues to rake steady numbers even with the news of the new car being due later this year.
