Maruti Suzuki India Limited will disclose the fuel economy figures of all twelve Maruti brands sold across all its dealers from 1st January, 2009. The company has implemented this idea in order to make it easier for customers to select a car from its stable.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) had made an announcement in September 2008 that all manufacturers can to disclose their products’ fuel efficiencies by the end of March 2009.
Maruti Suzuki has decided to execute them from the first day of 2009. The company has tested the cars at the three approved testing agencies; viz Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) Pune; International Centre of Automotive Technology (ICAT) Manesar and Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) Ahmednagar.
All the companies have to undergo a standard test. The various parameters included in the test are: two personnel in the car, AC switched off; standard fuel; gear changes in a determined pattern; standard air pressure in the tyres, wind speed, etc. As the test conditions are similar for all the manufacturers, it becomes easier for the consumer to choose a brand.
