Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the diesel variant of the Celerio to the Indian market. The oil-burner might be launched on April 20 and will go on sale at all Maruti Suzuki dealerships across the country following the launch.
According to initial reports, Maruti Suzuki was developing a new 800cc diesel engine, which will first be launched in the new Maruti LCV (codeY9T) and then followed by the Celerio. The diesel mill is a three-cyclinder 800cc diesel engine that is expected to produce 70bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. It will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
In terms of appearance, the diesel Celerio will be the same as the Celerio on sale now. The vehicle will come equipped with the same features and variants. Apart from the DDiS badging over the front wheel arches and an LDi/VDi/ZDi batch at the back, the only additional difference is that the diesel variant might not be offered with the AMT gearbox initially.
The diesel variant of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio might be priced Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 more than the current Celerio on sale. The small hatchback is already enjoying a good demand in our country and with the addition of a diesel variant; the manufacturer will put up a tough fight for the entry-level of diesel cars soon. It will be pitted against the diesel version of the Chevrolet Beat when it goes on sale in our country.
