Just 4 days ago we had reported the Pixo, actually the A-star, to be discontinued from the UK market. Now according to a supplier who reported to economic times, the production of the A-star would be stopped in India as well. He also mentioned a new version of the same would be launched soon.
Only 5,951 units of the A-star were sold in the period of January to September 2013. In comparison to other vehicles sold by Maruti Suzuki the A-star is one of the slowest selling cars whose demand has been reducing a lot. Even though the car-maker might have managed to increase its overall sales, slow sales of the A-star will result in stopping the production of this model soon. Maruti surely would not find it feasible to continue such a low-selling model especially in a competitive compact-cars segment. However Maruti’s spokesman has declined to comment on any product plans.
A component supplier for A-star said, "Maruti has exhausted the quota of the Pixo from Nissan Motors; it's an indication that gradually A-Star is on its way out. We would see some new cars replacing these older models that would hit the market around the Auto Expo early next year.”
Maruti Suzuki tends to be shedding their habit of sticking to their old models and making minor changes. Stopping the production of the Estilo and now bringing in the 2014 Maruti Suzuki A-star, with so many changes entirely revamping the car, explains the same. We can expect the new Maruti Suzuki A-star to be launched in India in the first half of 2014 after its unveiling at the 2014 Auto Expo.
