Maruti Suzuki maybe working on a second Swift based sedan for the Indian market. A report from Overdrive suggests that this car will be based on the 2016 Swift (expected to be unveiled next year) and will be the global model in the automaker’s range.
The report suggests that in the Indian market, this car will slot into the space between the Dzire and the Ciaz. Unlike the former which is basically a Swift with a boot, this new vehicle will be longer than four metres and be far more feature- loaded than the Dzire. It is expected to get the same underpinnings, engine and transmission options as the hatchback but is also expected to include an AT option.
When the entire range of vehicles goes on sale- , there are expected to be five models from the Swift platform - Swift hatchback, Dzire compact sedan, premium hatchback above the Swift, Ertiga MPV and finally the sedan. Such a plan suggests that the automaker wants to cover every part of the B-segment as well as the C-segment before it moves onto the higher sections in the auto hierarchy.
