Maruti Suzuki's upcoming SUV has hit a hurdle. The company was supposed to launch the new SX4 S-Cross in India this year, however, the company has hit a roadblock because the S-Cross name has already been registered by an auto ancillary.
This issue was raised by the government’s product registration department who informed Maruti about the name already being registered. Under section 12, a name cannot be registered because of its identity with an earlier name and similarity of goods and services. The Gurgaon-based manufacturer has asked the concerned department to recheck the name, however, as per the latest report, the name hasn’t been granted to Maruti Suzuki. This has resulted in Maruti Suzuki looking for another name for this anticipated product. As per ET, Suzuki has registered for Across and the Crossa names, which could be used to identify this vehicle as both of them have “cross” in it. It will be easy for the consumers to recall this car because of the ‘cross’ word association to it.
The Maruti Suzki SX4 S-Cross will compete with the Renault Duster and the upcoming Hyundai ix25 crossover. Talking about the pricing, we are expecting the Gurgaon-based manufacturer to retail the car starting from under Rs 10 lakh for the base petrol variant and go upto Rs 13 lakh for the top-spec diesel.
