Maruti Suzuki may launch the Wagon R Stingray in the Indian market. The car will be positioned above the standard Wagon R and looking at Maruti’s way of introducing a new version of an existing car, it will feature mainly cosmetic upgrades with the same mechanicals configuration.
The Wagon R Stingray was launched for the Japanese market in 2007 and is currently in its third iteration. It was unveiled along with the third generation Wagon R in September last year. It is a sportier version of the standard Japan spec Wagon R and features a revised grille, larger air dam, new (projector) headlight design and revised alloy wheels. These are all features that we can expect to see on the Indian spec car.
The Japanese spec Wagon R and Stingray seem to have a much lower ground clearance and this is due to larger bumpers and side skirts, something that we understandably won’t get due to the condition of our roads. The interiors are pretty much the same as the standard car in Japan but for the Indian market we expect Maruti Suzuki to add a few extra features to make the car a more lucrative product.
On the engine front, we expect that Maruti Suzuki will continue with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that churns out 67.9PS and 90Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via five speed manual gearbox. It is likely that this car will also get a CNG variant. We expect that Maruti Suzuki will price the Stingray Rs 50, 000 more than standard car.
