Since its arrival back in 2011, the current-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has managed to lead the charts in the premium hatchback space without the help of any updates whatsoever. Maruti Suzuki never seemed to have rushed in to give the Swift a thorough makeover, but stiff competition from rival brands like Hyundai and Volkswagen has prompted the Indian carmaker to introduce a facelifted version to rejuvenate its hot seller.
Unveiled globally in July last year, the facelifted version of the Swift will finally get launched here in the Indian market. According to a report by Overdrive, Maruti Suzuki will launch the facelifted Swift by July this year. The report also goes on to say that Maruti is currently offering quite a bit of discount on both the petrol and diesel models of the hatchback. In a bid to clear off stocks of the pre-facelift model, the petrol powered Swift, reportedly, is carrying a discount of Rs 10,000, while the diesel model gets a hefty Rs 20,000 discount.
Although it will come in as a facelifted model, the upcoming version of the Swift features extremely minor design updates which include a revised front bumper with the L-shaped LEDs and a new grille. At the back, the car gets a high mounted LED brake light. As for the greasy bits, the facelifted Swift is expected to remain pretty much unchanged – the existing 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDIS diesel engine options will be on offer. Having said that, Maruti could offer this car with its new AMT (automated-manual transmission) first seen in the Celerio.
Soon after the launch of the facelifted Swift, expect Maruti to follow up on the act by adding the facelifted Dzire to its line-up.
