Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the CNG powered Ertiga MPV next week. A report from Financial Express suggests that the CNG variant will cost Rs 30, 000 more than the standard vehicle and will be available only in the LXi and VXi trims. When launched, the CNG Ertiga will be the second vehicle after the SX4 sedan in the Indo-Japanese automaker’s line up to have three fuel options.
The Ertiga CNG will be powered by the same 1.4-litre petrol mill that sits in the standard car. It produces 93PS and 130Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
We expect that Maruti Suzuki will use the same CNG kit that sits in the Wagon R and Estilo CNG. This means that in addition to the 45-litre petrol tank, the MPV will also get a 60-litre CNG tank and it will be located in the boot. While this move is expected to increase efficiency and make the Ertiga a lucrative deal for groups like the fleet market, it will compromise boot space and more so when the third row of seats are up.
The Ertiga competes with the Chevrolet Enjoy, Mahindra Quanto and the Ford EcoSport compact SUV, the last one more so in terms of price.
