Maruti Suzuki has launched a limited edition of its top-selling hatchback to celebrate over 30 lakh units of the car being produced globally. The limited edition has six extra accessories and is available for Rs 30,000 over the price of the regular variant. Our sources have confirmed the accesories cost Rs 21,000 and that the rest of amount is given as a benefit to the customer.
The interior changes include a double din music system, faux leather seat covers, two speakers (both in front) a steering wheel cover and some designer floor mats. The exterior changes have been limited to a roof mounted spoiler.
The Swift Star Edition is available with diesel and petrol engine options. The diesel is a 1.3-litre oil burner producing 74 bhp and 190Nm of torque while the petrol is a 1.2-litre mill producing 85bhp and 114Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Swift has been in the news for all major reason, first reports emerged saying that the Swift was being offered with no delivery period and then a day later we found out that MSIL dealers were offering it with an Rs 5000 discount, the first in the history of the cars Indian innings.
Now it also seems likely that this limited edition is a step by the Indo-Japanese automaker to clear its stock and keep its inventories moving in a time when the auto industry has taken a severe beating almost all over the world.
The Suzuki Swift has been one of the Japanese automakers best-selling models since it was launched in 2004. The Swift arrived in India in 2005 and got a facelift in 2011.
