Maruti Suzuki has added a VXi airbag variant to the Alto 800 line up and it has been priced at Rs 3.31 lakh (Non-metallic paint ex-showroom Delhi). It has all the features as the recently introduced VXi variant and costs an additional Rs 18, 318.
The VXi variant was launched on the 17th of June and has all four power windows and central locking as additional features over the LXI variant. The addition of the airbag for this variant was expected to happen soon and is most likely a step to make the car more appealing to a wider range of buyers.
The Alto 800 VXi is powered by a 796cc petrol mill that produces 48PS, 69Nm of torque and is the standard engine across the range. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. It is likely that in the course of the next few months the Gurgaon based automaker may also launch VXi CNG variant.
What is surprising is that while the difference between the standard VXi and the airbag VXi is mere Rs 18,000, also the price difference between the VXi airbag variant and the LXi airbag variant is Rs 15, 899. We are not sure about the pricing strategy, but we are hoping that with minimal difference between the two models buyers will opt for relatively safer variant.
