Ahead of its launch in the Indian market, the variant list for the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been leaked. Its Nexa home base means that it gets the Latin-esque names rather than the three letter combination that is so familiar with the Indo-Japanese automaker’s vehicles.
The Ignis will be offered in 14 variants across both petrol and diesel options. There is an AMT option across both fuel types including a taxi variant which we suspect is involved in some kind of deal with Uber who Maruti Suzuki partnered up with in September. Petrol variants include Delta (base) Zeta (mid) and Alpha (top-of-the-line) as well as a Delta and Zeta AMT variants. The diesel variants are the same while the taxi models are being offered in two petrol and one diesel variant.
Engine options include the K-Series 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 89bhp/115bhp while the diesel is a 1.3-litre unit producing 75bhp/190Nm. We already know that the top spec Alpha variant gets climate control, touchscreen infotainment system and a premium looking beige and black cabin with body coloured inserts.
The Ignis will be launched for the Indian market on January 13 and is expected to be priced Rs five lakh to Rs eight lakh for the top spec diesel variants. It will rival the likes of the B-segment hatchbacks like the Hyundai Grandi10 and the Mahindra KUV100.
