The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be the first major launch of 2017 and as you would expect, there is plenty of buzz surrounding this funky-looking crossover. Having previewed it recently, Maruti has made it official that the Ignis will go on sale across the country on January 13. Here’s what we know so far.
Like the S-Cross facelift that’s due for the Indian market, the Ignis also divides opinions when it comes to the looks. Design wise, the Ignis marks its arrival with a distinctive front face that integrates the LED headlamps and the strong lines of the front grille. It also inherits the Suzuki Cervo’s slit-like ‘C’ pillar design cues and the Swift’s blacked out ‘A’ and ‘B’ pillars. Maruti will even offer black-colored alloy wheels with gloss finish in top-spec trim.
The cabin in unlike any other Maruti hatchback on sale. Even commonly shared bits like the steering wheel and the dash buttons have been redesigned for the Ignis. As a result, this car looks thoroughly fresh and new on the inside. In terms of features, Maruti will offer a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, climate control, electric mirrors, steering mounted controls, alloy wheels and a digital instrument cluster.
Under the hood, buyers will be able to choose between two engine options – a 1.2-litre K-series petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. Interestingly, both fuel options will get Maruti’s AGS (auto-gear shift) option, besides the standard 5-speed manual.
What’s worth noting is that the Ignis will be sold only via Maruti’s premium line of Nexa dealerships, meaning it could be positioned above the Swift. Stay tuned for full details as we get closer to the official launch date.
