Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its much-anticipated Ignis in India tomorrow. The Ignis is the first major launch of the year for the carmaker, booking of which was commenced a few days ago. It will be third offering from the premium Nexa range after the S-Cross and Baleno.
First showcased as the Suzuki iM-4 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the Ignis is targeted at India’s gen-next. The funky touches all around the tall-boy hatch styling, the eccentric design with large wheel arches and a distinctive front and rear end make the Ignis a unique proposition when compared to the run-of-the-mill Maruti cars.
The ‘premium urban compact’ is what Maruti Suzuki likes to call the Ignis. It follows a global design language as the carmaker intends to make the Ignis look modern since it is squarely aimed at the millennials. Available in six body colours, it comes with projector headlamps with DRLs, blacked out A and B-pillars, black coloured alloy wheels with a gloss finish and the cabin in unlike any other Maruti vehicle in India. Every bit of the interior is designed to lend the Ignis a thoroughly fresh and new atmosphere. In terms of features, Ignis will be offered with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, climate control, steering mounted controls, and a digital instrument cluster.
The Ignis will be available in 14 variants across both petrol and diesel options. The variants are – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha with the Delta and Zeta variants getting the automatic transmission in both petrol and diesel options. Engine options include the K-Series 1.2-litre petrol unit producing 89bhp and 115Nm while the diesel is a 1.3-litre DDis engine putting out 75bhp and 190Nm.
When launched in India tomorrow, the Ignis will go up against the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and Hyundai Grand i10. Expected price for the crossover is between Rs 4.5-9 lakh.
