Maruti Suzuki has hiked the wages of the workers at its Gurgaon plant by 75 per cent as a part of a three-year wage settlement. Workers who will now get hikes in the range of Rs 14,000- Rs 22,00 based on experience and seniority will be one of the highest paid in the manufacturing sector of the country.
Speaking on the hike, Union general secretary Kuldeep Janghu said “this is the highest-ever hike in Maruti's 30-year history. We have signed an agreement with the management where even the probation of new technicians will come down to two years and the periodic medical benefits to all workers have also been doubled." Maruti has attributed the hike to a rise in the cost of living in Gurgaon. The Japanese small car major has also introduced a monthly traveling allowance of Rs 1,200 for each worker.
However, workers at Manesar plant, which saw riots over labour issues on July 18 will have to wait a little longer as the company is still working on the final agreement.
