- The S-Presso is expected to get a 1.0L petrol motor along with manual and AMT transmissions.
- It will rival the Renault Kwid.
Maruti Suzuki is developing an entry-level compact crossover that will rival the Renault Kwid. Although we do know that it will be based on the Future-S Concept, what we didn’t know was its production name. Now, according to a new patent filing, the production-spec Future-S Concept could be christened Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
The Future-S Concept made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. Internally codenamed as the Y1K, the crossover was initially expected to be the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Alto. The crossover will be designed, engineered and developed by Maruti’s Indian R&D unit, based out of the Rohtak facility in Haryana.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso will reportedly be underpinned by a modified version of the Heartect platform that also underpins the new-gen WagonR. The S-Presso will employ a 1.0-litre K10B three-cylinder petrol mill and will be offered with 5-speed AMT and manual transmissions. The S-Presso is expected to be launched in India around the festive period.
Maruti Suzuki is targeting the S-Presso towards first-time buyers. The crossover is expected to come with a best-in-class touchscreen infotainment system, rear camera and dual-tone paint schemes. Standard safety bits will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and front seatbelt reminder.
