Maruti Suzuki is all set to unveil the Future S concept at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018. This concept will preview the design for their new compact car with SUV like characteristics.
The teaser shared by the carmaker gives us some idea of its design. It will get a high bonnet, almost vertical A-pillars and chunky proportions making it look more like an SUV than a hatchback. The powertrain details are not available as of now, but we expect both petrol and diesel engine options to be offered. The Future S might get a 1.5-litre diesel developed in-house, while a 1.2-litre petrol mill might be future-ready with some hybridisation options.
SUVs have been accepted in many automobile markets across the world and their demand in India is also increasing. Maruti Suzuki wants to address this with the Future S concept. It has proportions of a compact car meaning it will be a sub-four metre vehicle. However, its USP will be its design with aggressive styling, high seating, good visibility and a roomy interior. The carmaker says it will create its own positioning by breaking away from the conventional proportions of a compact car.
We can expect this Future S concept to be a cross between an SUV and a compact car positioned somewhere between the A and B segments. It might then be slotted below the Brezza, but it will be interesting to see if it is based on the same platform as the Ignis or the Swift. More on this in the coming days. Until then, stay tuned to Carwale.
