While we have not been able to forget Maruti’s 2012 labour issue at their Manesar plant, fresh worker issue is brewing up at the same plant.
The company has sacked Kuldeep Janghu, general secretary of Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union after a scuffle he had with a supervisor. While this is how the 2012 labour issue took a big jump, the Gurgaon-based manufacturer is making sure that nothing like this happens ever again. The union leader and the manufacturer are in talks to find a solution and hope to resolve this issue soon.
"There was trouble in the spare parts division in the Gurgaon plant where a casual worker was manhandled by the manager on Saturday. Janghu intervened in the matter and there was an altercation. Following this, the company has suspended the union leader," sources told TOI.
In 2012, there was a major unrest between the Maruti Suzuki management and the labourers, which led to the death of a senior HR manager. This created a major outcry not within the company but also in other manufacturing units in the Manesar belt.
