Maruti Suzuki is set to launch an Ertiga-based six-seat crossover MPV in India on 21 August. Although based on the Ertiga, the source confirms that the crossover MPV will be sold as an all-new model via the NEXA sales channel.
The new Maruti Suzuki crossover was spied testing in India last month. It will feature a new front fascia that will include a pair of new headlamps with LED DRLs, new grille and a redesigned front bumper. The six-seat crossover will feature body claddings and roof rails in the profile, while the rear will get a new bumper.
That said, the most prominent changes will be on the inside. The party trick being the captain seats in the middle row. It is also expected to get all-black interiors. Barring these changes, the new Maruti crossover MPV is expected to share its body panels and interiors with the Ertiga.
As far as specifications are concerned, the all-new Maruti Suzuki crossover MPV is expected to carry over the 1.5L petrol engine from the Ertiga and Ciaz. However, with Maruti Suzuki uncertain over the continuation of diesel engines post the BS-VI implementation, it will be interesting to see what the company has in store for its customers.
The crossover MPV will be a premium alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and is expected to be priced up to Rs 12 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the top-spec variant. It will rival against the Mahindra Marazzo and SUVs like Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
