- The new 1.5-litre E15A DDiS 225 diesel engine puts out 94bhp and 225Nm.
- It will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.
- It won’t feature Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology.
Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce a new 1.5-litre diesel motor in the Ertiga. This engine debuted in the Ciaz late last month. Our sources close to the manufacturer tells us that Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.5L diesel will be introduced in India in the coming weeks.
The 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine will be sold alongside the ubiquitous 1.3-litre DDiS 200 mill, until the latter is discontinued before the end of this year owing to the introduction of BS-VI emission norms that kick-in from 1 April 2020. The four-cylinder E15A engine generates 94bhp and 225Nm and will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox. Similar to the Ciaz, the new powertrain won’t feature Suzuki’s mild-hybrid tech.
Maruti Suzuki asserts that the new E15A engine offers superior NVH performance and drivability. It has been accomplished by using a Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) and a lower compression ratio of 15.9:1. The new diesel motor uses an aluminium cylinder block, which has made it lighter when compared to the Fiat-sourced 1.3L engine that has a cast-iron block. The motor is BS-VI ready and can be upgraded to BS-VI compliance by adding a few filters.
We can expect Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.5L diesel to command a premium of around Rs 20,000-30,000 over the existing diesel variant. Apart from the introduction of the new powertrain, the Ertiga won’t receive any changes to its features or aesthetics.
