The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.5L diesel was spotted doing its last rounds of testing in India. The new diesel motor is likely to be introduced in the coming months. With the BS6 emission norms coming into effect from April 2020, the 1.5L E15A oil burner will replace the existing 1.3L Multijet motor.
According to the spy images, the Ertiga 1.5L diesel will feature a bigger MID, which is available on the petrol model. Unlike the current petrol and diesel engine options, the new 1.5L diesel motor won’t get Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid technology. According to the reports, the Ertiga 1.5L diesel will be available across three trim levels – VDI, ZDI and ZDI+.
The 1.5L four-cylinder E15A diesel engine will reportedly produce 95 PS of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of peak torque between 1,500-2,500 rpm. It will come with a six-speed gearbox. Reports reveal that the new diesel motor will deliver a fuel economy of 26.82 kmpl, which is slightly lower than the 1.3L diesel engine. Since the new powertrain won’t come with an SHVS unit, we can expect the Ertiga 1.5L diesel to get a marginal price bump of around INR 30,000.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has become the bestselling MPV in India, with overall sales of 7,975 units in February 2019. Apart from the Ertiga, the new 1.5L diesel motor will also make its way into the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, followed by the S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza.
