Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the next-gen Alto in a tall boy crossover avatar. The carmaker has revised their strategy for the entry-level hatchback after looking at the success of the Renault Kwid.
The Renault Kwid, with its sporty and aggressive looks, has got the Indian buyers enthralled. This entry-level hatchback has helped the company boost their sales numbers and can be rightly called as the game-changer for Renault. The much-needed buzz was created due to its good looks, new features and the most important - affordable pricing.
This small car category of cars is a price sensitive segment. It accounts for one-fifth of the total of 5.5 lakh units in India. The 'sporty' proposition is trending a lot in the Indian car market and every manufacturer is intending to have a product catering to this demand. This is also the reason why Maruti Suzuki's new products are also moving towards this trend. Though the design and body style of the upcoming Alto has not been finalised yet, the carmaker is looking at it as a counter measure to the Kwid.
However, this new Alto might only see the light of the day sometime in 2018. This year, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Ignis crossover with a similar proposition in the sub-Rs 6 lakh bracket.
