Maruti Suzuki's new C-segment sedan competitor, the Ciaz, will be launched in India tomorrow. The company had already started bookings of the new mid-size premium sedan and will officially reveal prices of its different variants tomorrow.
The car's first unveiling in India took place at the Auto Expo in February this year where the company displayed it as a concept. The global premiere was at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show where the manufacturer showed off the Suzuki Authentics concept styling. The Ciaz is longer than its immediate competitors, the new Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. The new sedan has a length of 4,545 mm and since it will replace the SX4, it is expected to offer a better rear seat experience than its predecessor.
The company is said to have brought in a lot of premium features than the SX4. The top-end variants of the Ciaz might feature projector headlamps, engine starter button, multi-function steering wheel, AC with climate control, cooled glove box, rear AC vents, 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, ABS, EBD and dual airbags.
Coming to the mechanical bits, the petrol variant of the Ciaz will be powered by the 1.4-litre K-Series four-cylinder mill that churns out 93.6bhp of power and 130Nm of torque. The diesel variant gets the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet motor that produces 88.73bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The oil-burner will be equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, while the petrol Ciaz will be offered with a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT transmission.
Maruti Suzuki has timed the launch of new vehicles from their stable aptly, coinciding with the onset of the festive season where the demand of new cars is more. With some more revised vehicles like the facelifted Swift and Alto K10, the manufacturer will also bring the S-Cross SX4 to India next year. The company's sales figures are only expected to improve with the addition of these new products to its portfolio.
