The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Hybrid will be launched for the Indian market on September 1. It will replace the current car in the diesel lineup and gets a mild hybrid system which will assist in improving fuel efficiency figures.
This updated version of the Indo-Japanese automaker’s C-segment sedan will continue to use the 1.3-litre Multijet engine but now mated to the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, this system uses regenerative braking to recharge the batteries. It also provides power for the idle start-stop and assists the crank in developing more torque. This new technology is expected to increase the Ciaz’s fuel efficiency to at least 28kmpl to 30 kmpl.
In terms of external appearance, there are no changes to the hybrid model apart from the SHVS badging at the rear. It is the same case in the cabin with the only additions being the start-stop button and a modified instrument cluster. However, we expect that the dealers will offer many hybrid accessories like stickers, scuff plates and blue ambient lighting options to match the hybrid nature of the car.
The hybrid option will be offered across all diesel variants and we expect an Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 increase in price over the equivalent variants of the current car.
