The Ciaz Hybrid has been spotted testing again. Its frequent sightings indicate that it’s production-ready and ready to hit the market.
Like we mentioned in our previous story, the Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle) will replace the current diesel model. In order to go ahead with this plan, the dealers are offering discounts of upto Rs 40,000 on the current Ciaz diesel models to clear their stocks.
Externally, the Ciaz Hybrid is the current Ciaz except for the fact that the hybrid will get chrome SHVS badging at the rear. Mechanically, the updated Ciaz will get the 1.3-litre Multijet engine, which is now engineered to work with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle technology.
Suzuki had unveiled this technology at the 2015 Geneva Motor along with the iK-2 hatchback. This isn't a full hybrid but is more of a mild system that involves the use of a lithium-ion battery which will be charged using regenerative braking. It will also provide power for the idle start-stop and also assist the crank in developing more torque. With this new technology, Maruti Suzuki is looking to increase the overall fuel efficiency of the Ciaz, which could go upto 30kmpl.
The bookings of the Ciaz Hybrid will begin from next Monday, which will be followed by the launch in the same week. Talking about the price, Maruti Suzuki wants this version to be priced close to the current diesel versions, in order for better sales and market reach.
