Maruti Suzuki’s next big launch, the Ciaz diesel hybrid, is days away from officially arriving in the market and prior to it, we have managed to get hold of some more important details. As it turns out, the mid-size sedan called Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle), by Maruti, will be available in three variants – VDi, ZDi, and ZDi+ variants.
Design wise, the Ciaz diesel hybrid will look the same as the Ciaz diesel, albeit with SHVS badging at the rear. It’s underneath where majority of the changes have been made to make the car more environmentally friendly. While Maruti is using the same 1.3-litre Multijet engine, the drivetrain has been updated to work in conjunction with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle technology. Speaking of which, this isn’t a proper hybrid system but a mild setup that uses a lithium-ion battery, stop-start technology and regenerative braking for improved efficiency.
The Ciaz SHVS will soon hit the showrooms and replace the conventional diesel model. Maruti, in fact, has been offering discounts of up to Rs 40,000 on the Ciaz diesel to clear off its existing stock.
