It seems like Maruti has another winner on its hands with its newly launched sedan, the Ciaz, beating the segment leader Honda City in monthly sales. Maruti sold 6,345 units of the Ciaz and, in comparison the City managed just 5,120 units in October.
There were speculations that Maruti is playing it safe, with the choice of powertrains and styling. However, it seems like it has managed to catch the attention of the buyers who matter the most. The Ciaz was launched in October and since then dealers have accepted bookings of more than 17,000 units for the car.
These are still early days and it cannot be said that the Ciaz has already beaten the City to emerge as the new segment leader. The City’s sales have been affected by the issues that Honda is facing as its production was stopped to accommodate its new launch – the Mobilio. It will be interesting to see how the sales chart looks like when Honda starts additional shifts to counter the shortfall in City’s production.
