-The new 1.5L diesel engine is developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki.
-It generates 94 bhp and 225 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual.
-The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 1.5L diesel delivers fuel economy of 26.82 km/l.
Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the Ciaz with a new in-house developed 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine. The Ciaz 1.5D is available in three trim levels – Delta, Zeta and Alpha, priced from Rs. 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new engine is only Rs 17,000 more expensive as compared to the existing 1.3-litre DDiS 200 motor. The new engine is available with an all-new six-speed manual transmission.
According to Maruti Suzuki, the new gearbox offers light gear shifts and a smooth drive. The new 1.5-litre E15A four-cylinder motor develops a maximum power of 94 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of peak torque that is available between 1,500-2,500 rpm. The Ciaz 1.5L diesel delivers a class-leading fuel efficiency of 26.82 km/l. However, it should be noted that the new diesel motor doesn’t come with Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid tech.
Maruti Suzuki claims that the new diesel motor offers superior NVH performance, which is achieved by using a Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) along with optimized compression ratio to reduce the engine fluctuations. The new diesel powertrain is BS-VI ready and will comply with the upcoming emission norms by adding a few filters to the engine.
Apart from the new 1.5L diesel motor, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is also available with a 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol motor (103.5 bhp/138 Nm) and a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine (89 bhp/200 Nm). Both these engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The petrol also gets an optional four-speed torque converter automatic.
