We had shown you the pictures of the diesel variant of the Celerio sighted at several occasions while being tested in India. A new report suggests that the manufacturer might launch this production ready car in the first half of 2015.
It was initially disclosed that Maruti Suzuki is developing a new 800cc diesel engine that will first be launched in the new Maruti LCV (codeY9T) and then followed by the Celerio. The diesel mill in question is a three-cylinder 800cc diesel motor that is expected to churn out 70bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. It will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
From the pictures seen earlier, we can assure you that there are no major changes to the looks of the car and the vehicle will get the same features as seen in the current model of the Celerio. Apart from the DDiS badging over the front wheel arches and an LDi/VDi/ZDi batch at the back, the only additional difference is that the diesel variant might not be offered with the AMT gearbox initially.
We can expect the diesel trim of the Celerio to be launched sometime around the announcement of the budget. This is when the various car policies that decide various benefits for users are affirmed., this should be a good time for Maruti Suzuki to launch the Celerio diesel for the Indian market. This oil-burner is expected to be priced Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 more than the current models of the petrol Celerios. The only rival of this car till now is the diesel version of the Chevrolet Beat and let’s hope new manufacturers also come up with diesel variants to sweat it out in the entry-level of diesel cars soon.
