Maruti Suzuki's Celerio is enjoying a good demand in the Indian market, and this April a diesel variant might be introduced to the manufacturer's line-up. The report on Business Standard suggests that the oil-burner will sweat it out in the entry-level of diesel cars soon.
The diesel variant of the Celerio was spotted testing several times in India. Reports confirmed that Maruti Suzuki is developing a new 800cc diesel mill that will first be launched in the new Maruti LCV (codeY9T) and then followed by the Celerio. The diesel powerplant we are talking about is a three-cyclinder 800cc diesel engine that is expected to churn out 70bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. It will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Cosmetically, the Celerio will be the same and the car will come equipped with the same features as seen in the Celerio on sale now. Apart from the DDiS badging over the front wheel arches and an LDi/VDi/ZDi batch at the back, the only additional difference is that the diesel variant might not be offered with the AMT gearbox initially.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel model might be priced Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 more than the present variants of the petrol Celerios. The car will go up against the diesel version of the Chevrolet Beat when it goes on sale in our country.
