We recently reported that the diesel variant of the Celerio will be launched in April this year. This oil-burner that comes powered by a new 800cc diesel mill has been spotted prior to its launch and the new snapshots reveal the new mill under the hood.
The diesel unit, with the DDiS badging, is a three-cylinder 793cc motor that is expected to produce 70bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. It will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Speculations suggest that this mill will return a fuel economy of 30.1kmpl.
After been spotted several times in our country, the new diesel engine has been finally caught on camera. This diesel version of the Celerio appears to be same as the current model and will just get the DDiS badging to differentiate it from the petrol variant. The feature list in the cabin is also expected to be the same as on the petrol version.
This diesel model might be priced Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 more than the current Celerio on sale. It will rival the Chevrolet Beat in the entry-level of diesel cars in India.
