The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel has been spotted in what appears to be its production version. The car bears no major signs apart from the fact that it has the DDiS badging above the front wheel arch. A vehicle that bore the LDi was previously spotted testing and we believe that this car in the pictures is a VDi variant.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel will be powered by an 800cc three-pot diesel engine that is expected to produce around 70bhp, 175Nm of torque and will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. We expect lots of bottom-end power from this engine as it will be used mainly for city driving. The car, on the feature front, will have the same feature list as the current Celerio but we believe that there will be Lxi (O) variants which will have some additional features and options.
Now the biggest question, when will Maruti Suzuki launch the car? Given that the vehicle in the pictures appears to be production ready, we believe that they will launch the car sometime next year and more importantly when the Centre has issued the new budget and the various benefits for carmakers has been clarified.
It is expected to be priced Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 over the equivalent petrol models and will compete with the Chevrolet Beat diesel.
