Maruti Suzuki announced a sales milestone for the Celerio, which sold more than one lakh units in a financial year. The carmaker sold 103,734 units of Celerio in the financial year 2018-19, an increase of nearly 10 per cent compared to the previous fiscal year. And since its introduction in India back in 2014, the Celerio is also approaching the five lakh sales milestone with current cumulative sales standing at around 4.7 lakh units.
Maruti Suzuki has also revealed that nearly 31 per cent of the Celerio buyers opt for the AMT gearbox with the top-spec ZXI contributing over 52 per cent of total sales. The CNG variant accounts for 20 per cent of the sales. Other Maruti Suzuki cars that achieved this feat of selling more than one lakh cars in a financial year include Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Baleno, Swift, WagonR and Alto. A few days back, Maruti Suzuki also added standard safety features across all variants of Celerio including anti-lock braking system (ABS), driver airbag, rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and high-speed alert system.
Commenting on the sales milestone, R S Kalsi, senior executive director of marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “We are delighted that this glorious benchmark has been achieved by Celerio. With evolved design, technology and ease of driving, Celerio has successfully won the hearts of many Indian customers. It was the first car to democratise two-pedal technology and the recent upgrade in its safety features has significantly enhanced its appeal as the perfect city car. Based on customer feedback, we have continuously provided new contemporary features in Celerio to keep them delighted.”
The Celerio’s sales are consistent at a monthly average of 8000 plus units in India. It found 1,00,957 takers last year, making it the tenth highest selling car in India in 2018. Last year, it also received the Celerio X variant with added body cladding and rugged exterior. Powering the Celerio is the K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp and 90Nm. Apart from that, Maruti also offers a petrol-CNG guise with 58bhp and 78Nm. The transmission choice includes a five-speed manual as standard and optional AMT.
